The Professional Muskie Angler Circuit™ (Pro-MAC™) concluded the 2011 regular season with the final qualifying tournament on Lake Mohawksin Saturday, September 24th. A cold front had passed through the area the day before the tournament, eventually knocking down the muskie activity, allowing fewer opportunities for the competitors. However, numerous teams reported having chances at mid to upper forty inch muskies on and lost throughout the day, only to come up empty. Only two muskies would hit and stick eventually being registered for the event.
At the 6:30am start time on Saturday morning, the cool air temps and the overcast skies gave expectations of a great day of muskie tournament fishing but expectations and reality would turn out to be a very different outcome. Why muskies bite on days that seem to be poor fishing days and are inactive on those days that are supposed to be perfect conditions…no one knows, but the team of Curt Mohney and Cal DeHut were able to figure out a 41.75 inch muskie using a 9" Suick Muskie Thriller at 10:55am to catch not only the first fish, the big fish, but also capture the first place victory. The only other muskie to be landed for the competition came from the father and son team of Gary and Justin Norenberg when they scored on a 35.75" inch fish at 1:25pm with a Dream Catcher Bucktail.
The Lake Mohawksin Pro-MAC™ event was the third and final one day qualifier that guaranteed the top five finishers a bid to the season ending Invitational Championship. Because only two teams would tally muskies for the event, three teams would be drawn not only for third, fourth, and fifth place but also for the Championship invites. Five teams from the Lake Mohawksin will be at the Championship, how they perform at the “Big Show" will be settled next Saturday and Sunday at Pewaukee.
The Pro-MAC™ Lake Mohawksin qualifying tournament top five finishers were:
1st - Curt Mohney/Cal DeHut
2nd - Gary and Justin Norenberg
3rd - John Corder/Dan Winter
4th - Gary George/Bob Lass
5th - James Sievwright/Corey Huck
The Pro-MAC™ inaugural 2011 season consist of three one day qualifying tournaments and six two day qualifiers, all culminating with histories largest guaranteed muskie tournament circuit championship payout of $40,000.00 to the first place finishers with a purse of $55,000.00.
